Street Fest Charlotte-Style
One of the things we miss most about Chicago are its summer street festivals - music, food, drink, friends, closed down streets, warm weather and great people watching. Well...it's a bit different in Charlotte, but we'll take what we can get. Our street shuts down once a year and hosts a block party w/ neighbors, food, drink, fire truck and police car, kids on bikes and warm weather (it did not rain for the 17th straight year on Labor Day). The evening ended w/ a shaving cream fight amongst the kids (apparently tradition). Cole spent the evening on his bike and then chasing and being chased by Barbasol cans. He had a blast...more so than at any of the Chicago festivals. We're supposed to host next year...any ideas on activities?

2225
In the 6 years Cole has been alive, we've moved 4 times: Barrington to Chicago, Chicago to New York, New York to Charlotte (apartment), Charlotte (apartment) to Charlotte (house). This does not include the move we made from Chicago to Barrington when I was in the late stages of pregnancy w/ Cole. He thinks that moving is an annual process that people just have to go through. Let's hope we can teach him otherwise w/ this one. We'll miss the pool of the Residence in Charlotte (apartment), but Cole is already making Charlotte (house) a home w/ his creative addition to the front yard. If you can't tell, that's his scoreboard, but it doubles nicely for a house number.

1st Day of 1st
We've been delinquent in posting as it's been crazy busy. I'll try to catch up over the next few days/weeks. Cole had his first day at his new school - he's in Mrs. Powell's first grade class at Eastover Elementary. Get this - he has to wear a uniform (and tuck in his shirt, another first). His fave part of the day is the bus ride, he can't wait to get to the bus stop w/ his Malvern/Hampton buddies and race to be first on the bus. We told him that he'll be riding the bus until 12th grade - he was sooo excited - when does bus riding stop being cool?

Fear of Heights
Only Jim. Not me and now not Cole. At Fun Friday last night (a school event with activities that included this climbing wall), Cole 'rang the bell' at the top not once, but twice. He also seems to enjoy roller coasters, which again is a gene passed from his mom. We're working hard for the next month to grow, grow, grow given we have 1 more inch to add before he makes the cut for the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at DisneyWorld.

Home Sweet Home???
We had not planned to seriously look for a house until our lease was up July 31st. I refused to see this house for 6 months b/c I thought it looked like a barn and was ugly as hell. I gave in one Saturday afternoon and decided to go have a look...we're now under contract and supposed to close May 1. Guess we're staying in Charlotte for awhile...please let the market turn NOW.

Spring in Charlotte, finally...
One of the major selling points for Charlotte is the weather. So they say. I think it's just us...everywhere we go it's the worst weather in years, most rain ever or record cold temperatures (remember Disney 2006?). Cole had 3 snow days this year - one of his make-up days is Memorial Day (I think he already feels a bit of a cold coming on for that day). Here is a pic from one of the snow days...check it out, this was the most accumulation we ever got. It's 80 degrees and sunny today in Charlotte. It's sleeting in Chicago. It's about time.

Update: Girl's Mickey Shirt
Monday, February 16, 2009
ACTION REQUIRED: Disney t's 2009
Ok, here are the mock-ups for the adult Disney t's. I thought about color, but the Mickey pic has a white frame that looks bad on color. The boy t's are microfiber. The girl t's are burnout (super thin, bad w/ white???, they also had a sleeveless microfiber). Give me your feedback and your shirt sizes...kids are next.

BFF
Cole has a new best friend. John lives down the hall from us in our apartment and the two boys are now inseparable. On one hand, it gets a bit tiring to hear 'Can I go knock on John's door?' twenty-five times per day. On the other hand, they wear each other out completely. Besides, how can we get mad at this...Cole left a note last night in front of John's door. Here it is...along w/ a pic of Cole & John terrorizing the apartment halls.
